TAP Mental Health Series – Fighting the Stigma
May 2 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join Taiwanese American Professionals in part 2 of our 3 part series about Mental Health in Asian Americans. In this series, we are hosting speakers across mental health professionals to discuss Asian Americans and the importance of caring for our mental health.

This virtual session is titled “Fighting the Stigma: Model Minority Myth,” and we will be covering the following topics/activities:
-What is mental health stigma and the model minority myth
-Generational differences in mental health views
-Mindfulness activity: Body scan
-Q&A

Time: 2pm EDT, 11am PDT

Penelope Hsu will be our guest speaker; she will be sharing a personal story and her experiences learning to communicate with her parents as a first generation Asian American, as well as how she has worked with her patients and those she coaches to deal with their mental health struggles.

Penelope is a board-certified, practicing pediatrician, an actor, and a certified professional life coach. She’s also a first generation Asian American, tasked with bringing honor to her family above all else. Her journey to find a way to balance these seemingly disparate aspects of her life led to some dark places.

Her mission now is to provide guidance to any and all who have experienced the dissonance between the life they are living and the life they want. She applies all the skills that she has amassed over her career in medicine, the performing arts, and in life to help people find the balance, purpose, and passion that motivates them to achieve their highest potential.

We are taking donations if you would like to contribute (venmo: @TAP-Seattle or paypal: @tap-seattle).

More about the cloth masks:
These are 2 layer cloth masks with pockets on the side. One size and color available only. Has “Taiwan” embroidered on it. Dimension about 9×4.5 inches.
These masks work great with a filter or disposable mask in the pocket for added barrier protection.
Cloth masks provide some barriers. Please also use other good health practices to help protect you and other people around you.
